Dynazty - Land of broken dreams
The Swedish rock band Dynazty made a name of themselves in this years Melodifestival (Sweden's competition for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest). They made a powerful cover of the song "This is my life" - Anna Bergendahl, who was the winner last year. Today the band announced the great news that they will compete in Melodifestivalen next year! I have heard rumors about it, but didin't want to write anything about it until it was confirmed. Dynazty will compete with the song "Land of broken dreams" which is written by Thomas G:son and Thomas "Plec" Johansson. Their part of the competition will be aired from Malmö on the 25th of February. Make sure you don't miss it! And for goodness sake... VOTE!!!!!!!!!

The Hangover 2
I have sat down to watch "The Hangover 2" about three times now but I always come up with something else to do. Like sleeping, hanging up Christmas decorations, listening to Vains of Jenna, watching interviews with Bradley Cooper.... but so far the movie has been phenomenal!! I thought it would suck since the first one was such a hit. It's definitely a risk trying to top the last movie if it went that well. But so far so good!

Those who refer to biology and testosteron every time a man commits a violent crime or a sexual assault."
All we really want is for people to think about their own actions and what effects they have. If you have kids then there is so much you can do to prevent the unbalanced look we have on women and men today. For example: I grew up watching so many Disney movies. They gave me a lot of great memories, stories and beautiful images to be inspired by. I remember it with great joy and I still watch those movies once in a while. But now when I think back I realise that those movies also influenced me in a bad way. Take "Beauty and the Beast" for example! Threats, assault, illegal restraint and OH how cute isn't it when the feather duster says NO to the chandelier who still does whatever he wants with her...

Hardcore Superstar is coming to Västerås
Just one day left to go! I'm counting down the hours til´ Hardcore Superstars gig :D
This will be the fourth time I see these guys live. Although last time doesn't really count since I just saw about five songs at Peace & Love...
I will try to film and take as many good photos as possible tomorrow. But until then, here you can watch the gig I filmed at Circus in April.
To be someone's exception, not the rule
This evening has been brilliant! I babysat the girls who I'm a Nanny to. Haven't seen them in ages so it was a joy cuddling with them in a big pile of pillows while watching the children's channel on TV. When I got home I finished watching a movie that I was recommended by a friend to see. It's called "He's just not that into you". The name of it doesn't sound very appealing, huh? But that's the beauty of it!! Finally someone has made a movie about how girls and boys are being raised differently. To show how that affects us when we grow up to become adults who are trying to find a partner. Apparently it is based on a book that was published with the same titel; the line is from "Sex and the City". I recognize myself so much in the character Gigi (Ginnifer Goodwin) who constantly is misreading the signals guys are sending out. But the one I recognized myself in the most was Anna (Scarlett Johansson) who uses flirting as a way of keeping guys at a distance. She is totally scared off when she's being offered a stable relationship, even though that is what she has always dreamed of... Hello me!
Don't think this movie is a chick flick though, it's for guys too! Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck are just some of the actors who are showing these scenarios from a guys point of view. Each of the characters stories are important for women and men to understand each other better. Watch it! It's so funny and great, you won't be disapointed!

Amaranthe
Ever heard of Amaranthe? Those of you who likes bands such as Nightwish and Within Temptation will like this Swedish/Danish power/melodic death metal band. (As they describe themselves, although I personally think their music is a bit too innocent to be called death metal...)
In April 2011 they released their first album which did well in both Sweden and Finland. They were especially succesful on Spotify where they were the 84th most played album in the whole world, all genres!
The six band members will continue their Europe tour until September of 2012. This October they had two gigs in Sweden but will return to Rockstad Falun next fall.

Stuck in the city that doesn't rock
Can't stand being at home so much these days. Everyone is constantly working and I just go to school two days a week. Not a lot of fun hanging around here alone, let me tell ya. Although I've been invited out to party on Saturday here in the city where I live. We'll just see about that...
Don't like partying in this city at all. Really. I'm the one who is most likely to be sitting in a corner looking like I want to get the hell out of there! And besides, don't know if I'll get my money until then. I guess I should give it a shot since I haven't been out on a club in Västerås for ages. There's just too many 17-18 year olds here and I get along better with people who are older than me. And who likes rock. It's weird though. Västerås is considered as one of the main rock cities of Sweden and we do get so many big rock artists here, even though we are so close to Stockholm. But the kids in this city doesn't seem to know about it. They're too busy waving their fists in the air to some remix of a techno/house song that goes on and on and on......
Oh if I only was as easily entertained... ;)

For the record
In 2008 I saw a documentary on TV that I taped so I would never lose it. It's called "Britney Spears: For the record" and it means so much to me. I'm not particulary fond of Britney's music nowadays, but I can relate to her as a person. We all know about those crazy years she went through when people thought that she was going insane. When in reality, she was just a broken-hearted girl trying to protect herself from the world. In this documentary she clears up all of the rumors that has ever been said about her. But first and foremost she talks about depression. Not that kind of depression that comes and goes, but the one that stays for a really long time and makes you feel like life is hardly worth living. The kind that I have gone through. I can't help but to cry every time I watch this, because what she says goes straight into my heart. It hits the weakest spot in my heart, but also the strongest. And here's why....
I wish that every person on this planet could experience major depression for 24 hours straight. Not because I want to harm them. I want to open new doors for them. Those doors that were opened for me when I got out of my depressive state of mind. It was a revelation... not a religious one... but a personal one.
Depression is something to be thankful for, believe it or not. Even though you definitely don't feel that way when you're in the middle of it. I do feel blessed to have gone through this. And Britney explains why in the best of ways.

God I miss the 90's.... yes, I was one of those kids who walked around with photo albums filled with collectible photos of Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys. I didn't have the original one though. The one that Spice Girls sold as merchandise. Every other girl in my class had it and I was so jealous. Inside of the booklet cover you had small pictures of the ones you could collect. I had 10 out of... I don't know... 60 maybe. I still have them to this day! In the same old Winne the Pooh album...

Woo-hoo, and you know I'm yours
Anyone else in my generation who watched the re-run of Happy Days as a kid? I adored it!
It was a happy-go-lucky show that always ended well no matter what troubles the family and the children's friends were being put through. Which is something that I can't really stand about todays television. I saw way too much Happy Days, Full House, Family matters and Step by Step as a kid...
But the good thing about these shows was that you would always laugh at every episode. And those are the memories that matters.
Even though Happy Days was cancelled in 1984, they still drew a crowd 10 years later when Weezer released their music video for "Buddy Holly". The band performed on a stage that looked like the one at Al's drive-in diner, then they combined that with clips from the show. They even managed to get Al who played Al.... (haha).... to do a short cameo in the beginning and in the end. Some of the actors like Anson Williams who played Potsie, agreed to do cameos as dancers. The video won four MTV Video Music Awards and now appears at the Music of Modern Art's music exhibit.

Christmas is coming
Right now I'm really supposed to be reading the "Sheridan, S, Discerning Pedagogical Quality in Preschool Scandinavian Journal of Educational Research, 2009"... it sounds about as boring as it is. I love this subject but jeez... why make it more complicated than it already is? The only thing that is keeping me in a good mood today is the lovely weather! The sun is shining and the roof tops are covered in ice. Now all I need is a blue sky and a big layer of snow.
I have a good feeling about December this year. Christmas just can't be that bad two years in a row. But what I am most looking forward to is the preperation for it. Listening to Christmas music, making ice chocolate, eating saffron buns with raisins in it and decorating the Christmas tree....

When spirits are calling my name
Speaking of Vincent... his father Roger Pontare is a very much respected artist here in Sweden. Vincent didn't want to give out his last name at first, because he wanted to make a career of his own. But nowadays most people knows about this and calls him by his full name Vincent Pontare.
His father Roger is known for his fantastic outfits that reminds you of the great ol´ native indians, the Lappish and the snowy mountains up in the north of Sweden. In year 2000 he entered the Eurovision Song Contest, which he has competed in many times, and won with the song "När vindarna viskar mitt namn" (When spirits are calling my name). Any Swede who doesn't know of this song must be living under a rock...
It's full of power and beautiful singing. Not to mention all of the interesting characters walking around on stage, making you feel like you've travelled back in time to walk through an Indian village...

The rock band Hammerfall has made a cover of this song that you can find on YouTube. But a couple of years before that, they did a much appreciated performance together with Roger. I clearly remember watching this and loving how the singers voices fell together in the best of ways.
P.A.R.A.D.I.S.E
This guy named Vincent is one of Sweden's best artists. It surprises me that his music doesn't get the attention it truly deserves. He has reached some success and had several hit songs in both Sweden and Germany in 2007 when he released his first record. Although he didn't release his second record until just recently, which is probably why people have lost interest. But I am so glad that he is back again! His style is very unique so I find it hard to describe it... but it's modern reggae pop with a 60's sound... haha confused? No worries, it sounds great.

Crashdïet live streaming
The Crashboys are in The States now. A dream come true of course and I couldn't be happier for them! (Okay so maybe I'm a little jealous that I'm not in L.A having a blast right now, but there's not much I can do about that :P)
Tonight... Saturday/Sunday... they will play their second gig. They are the headliners of the show together with Pretty Boy Floyd. And here is the wonderful news! Those of you who are, like me, totally bummed that you can't be there... well, wipe those tears away and check out the live streaming of the show! The show goes on the entire night (Swedish time) because 14 other bands are playing. But Crashdïet will go on stage sometime between 8:00-10:00 tomorrow morning. Vampire music
We're living in a Vampire obsessed world and I am one of those compelled suckers. I am a huge fanatic of The Vampire Diaries. I used to be a True Blood fanatic too, but that serie is just not as good as it used to be. I'm watching the third season of Vamp Diaries right now since it has started airing in America (remember the time when it took a program three years to get to Sweden?) and it's crazy good!! So much exciting things are happening in every episode and I'm amazed at how the writer of the books could come up with this brilliant yet complicated story! Although I guess some things in the TV-serie probably differs from the original story, so anyone who's not as poor as me is more then welcome to buy me the books! Thx....
To make things even better, every episode if filled with great songs! Lots of modern rock but also the kind of music that many rockers usually can't stand. But I have always had an eclectic music taste so get ready for this folks. Those of you who can't stand anything else than rock music.... take cover ;)

The getting over it part
I have just started listening to the modern rock band Blue October. So far, so good! The sound of these Texas boys reminds me of Anberlin and Silversun pickups. They make music that fits perfect for a TV-serie like "Vampire Diaries". It's cheerful and makes you want to dance, but also gives you that mystical Halloween feeling. The guys just released their sixth album and are on their way out in the world. Take a listen and see what you think of em!

"What in the name of...me...do you think you're doing?!" - Ares
Although I can't help but to feel a bit sad watching it since I know that Kevin Smith who played Ares - The God of War isn't alive anymore. Ares was always my favourite character. Everything around him was always crazy dramatic or ridiculously funny! Kevin died in an accident in 2002 which I didn't know about it until years later. While preparing for his first Hollywood role in the Bruce Willis movie "Tears of the sun" he went to China to shoot a martial arts film. He climbed up on a prop tower on the set for another film, lost his footing and fell several stories. He died on the 15th of February after being kept on life support for ten days at a hospital in Beijing.
When I got older and started doing my research, I found out that he was also a loving husband and a devoted father of three boys. Kevin adored performing on stage just as much as he loved acting. He had a wonderful singing voice and could do brilliant imitations of both Tom Jones and Elvis Presley (and I've heard plenty of imitations of Elvis to know that Kevin's imitation is the best one yet.)
There are several videos of him performing on YouTube, but this if my favourite one. It was filmed at a Hercules/Xena convention in 2000. It was a fun gig that Kevin and Joel Tobeck who played the freaky God Strife did for the fans. You can see how much he enjoyed being up there on stage.

Dr. Conrad Murray found guilty
Finally justice has been made! Just a few minutes ago Murray was found guilty of manslaughter. I have followed this trial and investigation ever since it started and I've always been sure that he was guilty. I don't think he killed Michael Jackson on purpose though. I think he freaked out when he realised that the King of Pop who was under his care had reacted negatively to the drugs. Which Murray very well knew was being overdosed.
But as a big MJ fan I also know what an influence Michael had on people. He surrounded himself with people who were bad for him. They did what he told them to do, because if they didn't then he would just disclude them from his circle of trust. And no one wanted to be discluded because he had this amazing impact on them. They loved his world. Michael was different from us because he was raised in a way that most of us aren't. When people adviced him to do something he didn't want to do, then he could just stop listening and shut those people out. He was used to get what he wanted.
Even though that personal trait wasn't the greatest, I still love him for all the good things that he did. How could I not? It's sad that some people just like to focuse all of their energy on that small amount of negative stuff.
To this day, some people still talks about him like he was guilty of sexually abusing those children. He was found NOT GUILTY. Believe me, I have been all over these investigations so many times and have not seen one evidence that would give anyone the right to say he was guilty. Not one!
I have a feeling that those people haven't done their research and just goes after rumors and interviews they have seen. They haven't looked behind the mask of the pop star to see who the real man was. Like, why he said the things he did about those children. It was all about love. Nothing else.
And the people who claims he was guilty, have they even bothered to direct their energy from Michael to the parents of these children? Looked at their economy? Looked at things that they have done in the past? Well, let me tell you then that several of these parents had in the past scammed people for money. Just like they tried to do with Michael and sometimes succeeded. Because no one wants to be in trial for abusing children. MJ did what he thought was right when he gave them that amount of money, so that he could move on with his life. But no, of course the media turned it into "Michael buys silence with money"....

I told my kids I ate all their Halloween candy
Jimmy Kimmel is one of my favourite talk show hosts. He has this brilliant way of acting like an insecure kid who wants to act tough. But in this particular video he's not acting at all. He's just asked the audience to send in tapes of when they tell their kids that all their Halloween candy is gone! You can imagine these sugarobsessed little rugrats gets pretty upset ;) haha

The cheesy 80's
Well, I guess that goes for all periods of time. There's always something cheesy going on. But the most embarassing thing is probably to watch what clothes people used to wear when my parents were my age. My kids are probably going to think I looked ridiculous too. Although, come to think of it... rock wear is often similar to what it used to look like in the 80's and that has been considered cool all along. So if I just stick to this I should be fine ;)
I have got to watch this movie called "Music & Lyrics"! It's about the former pop idol Alex (Hugh Grant) and an ordinary girl named Sophie (Drew Barrymore) who are trying to write a hit song for the teen star Cora Corman. I've heard from my friend Kiki that it's a fun movie and that it's worth watching! So far I've just seen the music video for the movie where you get to see Alex with his old 80's band. It's a hilarious imitation of how videos could look back then. Can you tell that it's been inspired by Wham? ;)
And now I've written a whole post and want to add the video from the movie. But the search function is giving me a hard time. Haha, seriously fuck my life. Click here to watch it!

Delayed Halloween celebration
This whole day has been a looong wait for the evening to come. It's not exactly here yet, but well on its way. Now I can start getting ready to go out partying in Stockholm. Can't wait to be on that one hour long train ride!!

Rock science
The 9th of December a new game will be released here in Sweden. This will be the perfect thing to bring out at a pre-party, to test everyone's knowledge about their favourite rock n rollas! The creators came up with 2500 questions about hundreds of rock bands. Of course Kiss, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Guns N’ Roses, Venom, Pearl Jam, Sex Pistols and Rolling Stones are just a few of them.
Who did what on what album? How did they get the idea for this song? There are always rumors flying around about these sorts of questions and the discussions can get quite heated. But here you have all the answers. The only question is, can you handle the truth? ;)

Casablanca tour postponed
"The Ryan Roxie/Casablanca shows announced last week have unfortunatly been postponed, but Roxie still wants to come to the UK to play! We are setting up a few intimate acoustic nights during which Ryan will play songs from his entire career including some Alice songs never performed live before as well as material from Roxie 77, Casablanca, Electric Angels and other surprises.
So far we have shows on November 17th in Bedford and November 21st in London (a guitar clinic followed by a show), exact details to follow, but are looking for pubs or music shops, small intimate venues, between these two dates that would be interested in having a show, especially major towns like Glasgow and Birmingham where more fans would be able to get to the shows. If you know of anywhere and can promise 'nothing but a good time' then drop me a line and we'll see what can be arranged. Obviously this is only a couple of weeks away so time is of the essesence."

Hardcore Superstar TV4
One of my absolute favourite bands, Hardcore Superstar, did an interview on Swedish television this morning. I have summed it all up for those of you who don't speak swedish!
The guys started the interview by saying that they aren't used to being up this early in the morning. Plus, Adde didn't get any sleep this night and Jocke only slept for two hours.
The band is releasing the 10 year anniversary record to celebrate that they released their first record about 10 years ago. Even though they have been performing much longer. They don't feel like they have changed that much over the years, they still have the same energy even though the energy doesn't come for free anymore.
They aren't as fond of their old songs anymore, but feel like they have to play them for the fans sake.
Of all the places they've played, Jocke prefer festivals and Adde prefer smaller clubs.
The interviewer starts off by talking about the gig the guys had on TV4 in 2003. The neighbours had hated the loud noice going on up on the roof top that morning. TV4 is now forbidden to have any gigs up there, which Hardcore Superstar say they take as a compliment!
They also say that the rock n´ roll lifestyle is not as glamorous as people think. Jocke claims it's just like any other job sometimes.
Adde says that the band don't have a deadline for stop touring or making music. They'll keep going until they drop.
The interviewer knows that Jocke has a child and asks if Adde does too. He replies - "none that I know of". She wonders how they combine family life with touring. Jocke says that you have to have an understanding partner. And sometime he brings his family along, when there's time for it. Which it unfortunately hardly ever is.
The last question is about how do the guys keep themselves so fit. Adde and Jocke says that they try to keep their every day life as calm as possible. They exercise as much as possible so that they can allow themselves to have a few beers after a gig.

Casablanca going on tour
It's finally time! Casablanca released an EP called "Kings, Queens and Guillotines" a year ago with the promise that an album was on its way. This November the band will go on a tour to the UK with several other bands and during that tour they will have their brand new CD with them! The world-wide release will be in February 2012. I have loved this band from the start and truly recommend that you see them live. It's a totally different experience than to hear the recorded versions of the songs.
The bands singer Anders Ljung is the man behind Space Age Baby Jane, Joesphine who plays drums is also in the well established band Sahara Hotnights, guitarist Erik Stenemo has played with Melody Club for several years and still is, Ryan Roxie was Alice Coopers lead guitarist for ten years and is now working in Sweden with his two bands Roxie 77 and Casablanca. The only one who hasn't been working with music before is the former AIK-player Mats Rubarth. Although music has always been a big interest of his and today he and Anders is Casablanca's main songwriters.
